Why are some sites cited by ChatGPT and others not?

Three factors determine whether an AI cites your site: technical access (can AI bots crawl your pages without being blocked?), structured data (do you have JSON-LD that AIs know how to read?), and content quality (is your text structured as questions and answers with factual data?). Cited sites check all three boxes - not just one.

Based on our internal analysis of 1,200 sites scanned in April 2026 and figures published by the main AI engines:

Measured signal Sites cited by ChatGPT Sites not cited
Presence of JSON-LD schema71%23%
AI bots allowed in robots.txt96%52%
Content visible without JavaScript89%34%
Question/answer format in H2-H367%18%

How to improve your visibility with AI in 3 steps

The idea is simple: measure, fix, measure again. Most sites gain 20 to 30 points out of 100 in just a few hours of work, without changing a single line of their design or editorial strategy. Here's the method PositionIA walks you through.

1

Free diagnosis

Enter your site's URL. PositionIA crawls your key pages and analyzes your robots.txt, your structured data and the quality of your content in less than a minute.

2

Concrete recommendations

For each detected issue, the tool provides a ready-to-paste code snippet (HTML, JSON-LD, robots.txt, nginx headers) along with a clear explanation in plain English.

3

Verification

Once the fixes are in place, run another analysis. You can immediately see your new score and the criteria that turned green.

How much does it cost?

It's free, no sign-up needed. You can run up to 5 analyses per day from the same internet connection. No ads, no data resale, no email asked for. PositionIA is made available by ALGOR-IT as a useful tool for the community.

What is AI positioning?

AI positioning is the equivalent of SEO for generative engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Gemini. Instead of optimizing a site to appear in Google results, you optimize it to be read, understood and cited in answers generated by AIs. This is sometimes called GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).

The techniques partly overlap with traditional SEO (quality content, structured data) but differ on several points: the importance of questions and answers, server-side rendering, llms.txt files, and explicit authorization of AI bots in robots.txt.

Frequently asked questions

Will my site be modified during the analysis?

No. PositionIA only performs reads (HTTP GET) on your public pages, just like any visitor or crawler. No modifications, no logins, no form submissions.

Which pages are analyzed?

The home page and up to 9 priority internal pages (blog, services, about, etc.) identified through your navigation menu. The analysis covers a maximum of 10 pages to stay fast.

Does the analysis work on JavaScript sites (SPAs)?

Yes. PositionIA crawls each page twice: a raw version (server HTML) and a version after JavaScript execution (DOM rendered with headless Chromium). It then compares the two to measure what AI bots - which often don't run JS - can really see.

What data is kept on your servers?

The results of your analysis (score, recommendations) are kept for 12 months. Your IP address is used only to enforce the limit of 5 analyses per day, and is not exposed. No personal data is requested. See our privacy policy.

What is the score out of 100 based on?

The score combines three weighted modules: AI Readability (25%), Structured Information (25%) and Content Quality (50%). Each module is itself broken down into several criteria evaluated individually. The full breakdown is explained directly on the results page.

Is the tool open source?

The source code of PositionIA is not public for the moment. If this interests you, contact ALGOR-IT - we are considering opening it up after stabilization of the MVP.
